HONOLULU (KITV4) – Retired Honolulu Police Officer Stan Cook passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022. Cook, a 10-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department, was described by the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO) as a law enforcement legend.
In 1994, Cook survived after being shot 8 times during a traffic stop in the Waipahu area, returning to the force only 4 months later.
SHOPO’s President Robert Cavaco released the following statement on Cook’s passing, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the death of retired Honolulu Police Officer Stan Cook. Stan will always be a law enforcement legend for heroically surviving being shot 8 times with an AK-47 by a coward high on meth. During the incident Stan returned fire and killed the suspect. Stan survived his injuries and went on to use this experience to help train other officers. Stan was a 17-year US Navy veteran who went on to serve 10-years with the HPD. Stan Cook led an incredible life, focused on helping others. Rest In Peace hero. You will be missed.”
